North Little Rock, Southaven Take Two in 2019 USTA Southern Mixed Sectionals

Two cities had two champions in the 2019 USTA Southern Mixed Doubles Sectional Championships, played Oct. 11-13, in metro Little Rock, Ark.

The host city of North Little Rock, Ark., and Southaven, Miss., had two winners. Southaven is a border city and suburb of Memphis, which had a champion and a finalist. Knoxville, Tenn. was represented by two finalists. Second-place teams in round-robins are considered finalists.

This year’s event drew the top teams from throughout the section’s nine states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Many of the teams – which represent various clubs, parks, recreational departments and organizations – have finished at the top of their local leagues or are noted as top teams in their respective states.

Tennessee had the most teams at the top of the standings with two victors and two finalists or second-place teams. Mississippi teams was at the top of three levels.

The tournament was played at two facilities in Arkansas: Burns Park Tennis Center in North Little Rock (tournament headquarters) and Rebsamen Tennis Center in Little Rock.

The Southern champions will receive a bid to compete in the USTA League National Championships in November.
